Statement of Direction: Microsoft Dynamics SL
One of the most common questions we get from customers is, “Is Microsoft going to continue to improve Dynamics SL?” The answer is “Yes.”
Wondering what’s in store for Dynamics SL? The Statement of Direction delivers a way to keep you, as a prospect, customer or partner, up to date on all of the latest Dynamics SL information. When change is in the air, you are sure to be well-informed with a “roadmap” that provides insight into the development plans of SL and what the future may look like for you. With Microsoft Dynamics SL 2015 coming out this fall, the current statement of direction is full of great information. Take a look below at some of the highlights!
Future Strategy
Over the next several releases, Microsoft Dynamics SL will continue to enhance and expand the current product features all while adding new functionality. The new concentration is to web enable SL. The advancement of cloud services is empowering people to use technology to work differently. You will find more flexibility in the devices you use and where and how you use them.
Cloud- it’s not what you think it is
The cloud is so much more than where information is physically at. No longer are you limited to a desktop or locked into a private company network… You now have the power in your hands in the form of a phone or tablet. The world is connected, always “on,” and highly mobile. Driving all of this is the Cloud, including internet and the applications and services that live within it.
The evolution of services opens a huge door for SL to re-imagine business applications in ways that were too costly or impractical before. The strategy is to provide flexibility so you can choose how you want to purchase and how you want to deploy.
Microsoft Dynamics SL Web Apps
The SL team effort is to continue to enhance and add new features while at the same time creating new ways to remotely access SL. This is accomplished by creating web apps to access Microsoft Dynamics SL features and functionality.
In 2013, SL introduced their first web app that allow people, whether they are running on premise or in the cloud, to access SL through a browser.
Current web services include:
Customer, Project, Project Time Entry, Project Expense Entry, Project Time & Expense Approval, Project Budget & Invoice Approvals, Project Delegations, Project Resource Assignment
Scheduled Releases:
Project Expense Report
Project Analyst
Project Communicator
Project Resource Management
Project Maintenance and Inquiry
Additional web services will be added to the list throughout the year.
Web Client
The web client focus is to take the traditional SL screens and make them accessible via a web client. More specifically, the first web client focus is to take data entry and maintenance screens used by project accountants and make them accessible via the web.
Roadmap
With a rapid release web app plan adding new functionality every half-year, you can rest assured that the solution you invest in today will grow at a rate to provide years of business success for you organization.
